Supervised Medical Weight Loss

Great additions to Your Weight loss Journey

Eating a well-balanced, reduced-calorie diet and exercising regularly are the cornerstones of weight loss, but certain drugs can provide powerful support.

GLP-1 & GLP-2

What are GLP-1 medications?

In 2005, GLP-1 medications were initially developed to help people with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. Recent studies of these medications further revealed that they had the potential to help with weight loss. Popular brands of the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide — including Ozempic and Rybelsus —are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating diabetes, while Wegovy is FDA-approved for obesity management. The difference between these particular medications is dosage and the formulation. Wegovy is a semaglutide 2.4 mg. injectable, while Ozempic is a 2 mg. injectable and Rybelsus is a 14 mg. oral pill. The multiple names, dosages, and formulations may create confusion, not to mention “off-label prescribing.” An example of this would be if a doctor prescribes medications that are approved for one condition to treat another condition. This is legal and there is usually evidence of how the medication can successfully treat the other condition. For example, a doctor may prescribe Ozempic — which is approved for type 2 diabetes — to instead treat obesity.

How do GLP-1 medications work?

We all have GLP-1s in our bodies. These are naturally occurring hormones which are released from our gut after we eat. The function of GLP-1s is to boost the amount of insulin our bodies make to keep our blood sugar within a normal range, as well as provide the sensation of fullness after a meal. The same effect on insulin regulation and appetite happens when GLP-1 receptor agonists come into play. People who take GLP-1 agonists will:

  • Feel fuller after and between meals
  • Have improved glucose levels
  • Experience reduced thoughts about food

Liraglutide

Liraglutide is a highly effective weight-loss medication that reduces hunger, increases satiety, and boosts insulin release. These liraglutide benefits, when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise plan, can aid you in your weight-loss journey.

Liraglutide is administered as a daily subcutaneous injection, which means it’s injected under the skin. The injection can be given in your stomach area, thigh, or upper arm. If you inject it in your stomach area, avoid the area within 2 inches of your belly button.

Change your injection site often to prevent skin irritation or hardening under the skin.

Liraglutide can be taken with or without food. Try to take your liraglutide dose at the same time each day.

The speed at which liraglutide works for weight loss can vary among individuals. Some people may start to notice weight loss within a few weeks of starting treatment, while others may take longer to see significant results.

Phentermine

Phentermine belongs to a class of drugs called anorectics, also known as appetite suppressants.

Taking phentermine helps suppress your appetite, thereby limiting how many calories you eat. Over time, this can lead to weight loss.

While the exact way phentermine reduces appetite remains unclear, the drug is thought to act by increasing neurotransmitter levels in your brain.

Neurotransmitters — the chemicals norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine — are your body’s chemical messengers.

When your levels of these three chemicals increase, your feeling of hunger decreases.

Lipo Mino

The “skinny shot” is a combination of B vitamins and lipotropic (fat shrinking) agents that help our bodies naturally create and boost energy. It is a once-a-week intramuscular injection. Some of the nutrients that make up Lipo B Injections (lipotropic injections) include:

METHIONINE: Methionine is one of the ten essential amino acids. It is a lipotropic amino acid, which reduces fat and aids in lowering cholesterol.

INOSITOL: This nutrient metabolizes fats and cholesterol and aids in transporting fat in the bloodstream. It also plays a role in the reduction of body fat.

CHOLINE: Choline plays a vital role in lipid metabolism, making it a good fighting tool against fat deposits.

VITAMIN B1: Thiamine helps the body metabolize glucose (sugar and carbohydrates).

VITAMIN B2: Riboflavin is key for metabolizing carbohydrates, amino acids, and fat. Also contributes to healthy vision and skin.

VITAMIN B6: Important to the immune system and the breakdown of stored fat which leads to increased energy.

VITAMIN B12: Helps with energy production and nervous system

L-CARNITINE: Helps the body produce energy. It is important for heart and brain function, muscle movement, and many other body processes.
